As we finish January and head into February the school community becomes very very busy, not only with academic activities but athletics as well.  We are so proud of the students at Centauri High School because of their time and effort that is put forth for our school community.

Academically, the Knowledge Bowl team is in first place in our league with five first place finishes.  Their Regional meet will be held on Feb 3rd in Alamosa.  I am sure they will represent the Falcons well.  The Financial Aid meeting for parents and students both will be held on January 12th at 6:00pm at Centauri High School. There will be a follow up meeting in February for any one with questions or if you happened to miss the January meeting. 9th and 10th grades will be taking the NWEA tests for subjects of Mathematics and English with reading and writting the tested intities. Mr. Romero is taking six upper classmen to UTI for an automotive competition in which the students are capable of winning scholarship money to UTI for their top level finishes.

At present time all Seniors have completed at least one college application.  This is attributed to the hard work of Bev Glynn our school councilor.  She has worked with the seniors to become aware of any and all scholarships that they could be interested in.

Valentina Valdez and Indica Mestas are semifinals for the Boetcher Scholarship. This scholarship can be used for any four year college or university in the United States.

Turning the focus to activities, Mrs Ruybal will be very busy in the month of February with Honor Choirs.  Due to the hard work, long hours and excellance of Mrs. Ruybal she has students in the CSU Honor Choir Feb 5 - 7, All State Choir also Feb 5 - 7, the ASU Honor Choir Feb 19 - 21 and WSCU Honor choir March 5 - 7.

Athletically both boys and girls basketball programs as well as Wrestling are in full swing.  Wrestling is in the heat of the tournament season.  We have several wrestlers that are ranked top four in state.  Regional Wrestling meet is on Feb 13 - 14 in Rye, with the State Wrestling Tournament at the Pepsi Center will be Feb 19 - 21.

Basketball will start the league schedule on Jan 23rd with Alamosa.  The JV Basketball tournament this year will be in Bayfield on Feb 21st.  For the Varsity, the District tournament will be played in Pagosa Springs on Feb 26 - 28.  Our league Champion is assured a Regional game and we have a total of three teams that will get a Regional birth.

The end of February will bring the start of the Spring sports season.  February 23rd will be the official first practice for Baseball and Track.

Again we are so proud of the Centauri High School student body.  As you can see the activity calendar is full, the students are succeeding in many different activities.  When you put into the fact that in the classrooms the students are preforming very well also.
